I was a child when someone told me it’s better that I die, since people would just be sad & grieve me for a few years & move on, rather than deal with my shit on a daily basis. I got hit both when I cried or tried to hold it in. Got constantly called a cow or piece of turd. Kept being sexually assaulted to myself out of fear to survive. Raised in Vietnam, being part American makes you cool; but once history lessons came, I got bullied. Moved to America, different version of history made me confused. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Trying to adapt quick to fit in to the culture and the large extended family that I didn’t know well was difficult. I started seeking self-worth & finding identity through my high school’s extra curricular programs, which I’m so grateful that exists. I loved my school & my teachers. While school rewarded me to do my best in the things I love, my relatives spread rumors I was doing drugs & heading towards a washed up life. My family had very low expectations on me. That & more made me learned to not trust blood, and that blood doesn’t make you family. And I was fortunate to find home in the people I chose to surround myself with. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ All of this bottled up conflict inside of me has made me believe that I am never enough. I am such a shit person that if I don’t start contributing any value to the world, then it’s better for everyone that I just die. Guilt of living has been my motivator to excel. And it’s now crumbling on me. All this has manifested itself into horrible insecurities and setting unhealthy high expectations for myself.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I am scared & I desperately want to heal so I can return to doing what I love & am good at. Therapy is not accessible yet, because of covid & waiting for insurance. But I think it’s a good first step towards helping myself.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ (remember Crooked Smile-J Cole from a decade ago? the song is hitting me hard rn)

Educating myself to learn & unlearn. #blacklivesmatter #blm #educateyourself⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ - facing the truth that staying quiet & being compliant is not right, which goes against what I’ve been taught⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ - recognizing the consequences of my silence⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ - understanding that my family has a traditionalist mentality of sticking to their own kind & that I cannot blame them, it was their way of survival through war, poverty & immigration⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ - opening up & researching healthy ways to communicate all this to the people within my reach

@BlackRock.Events was a company Jack created with me to further my love for event planning & bringing people together through my family's love for food ⚡️⚡️⚡️ It was launched on February 29 at REZO’s event! That night, we got a gig to cater to a convention for 200 at the end of March! 😊✌️ Then the pandemic happened, the economy became stunted & the events industry was put on an indefinite standstill. Now we're faced with the challenge of finding new ways to create community & share our food. Quite daunting, but still so exciting! A rebrand is in the works for the meantime, since we just slapped a random presentable name on previously to get the idea out the door.
